CPAC 2011; Gary Johnson’s Speech at CPAC

Bookmark and Share Libertarian-Republican and Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson took the opportunity to speak to conservatives at CPAC by delivering what I would term as common sense look at the issues. It was a speech which in many ways demonstrated how conservatism goes hand in hand with common sense.Johnson’s ability to shape the solutions to the issues as common sense thinking through a very natural flow of thoughts which persuasively argued for school vouchers, a balanced budget, and even a compelling case for the legalization of marijuana.

The overriding theme of Johnson’s speech was how much better our nation would be if the federal government eliminated impediments to entrepreneurs and increased competition so that we can truly find the best products at the lowest prices. Johnson emphasized how such thinking applies to education and even health care.

In general, Gary Johnson proved himself to be a welcome voice in the upcoming Republican presidential nomination process. He is a believer who stated that the Republican Party is the only Party capable of fixing what’s wrong in this country today. With Johnson and his ideas and approach to our solutions involved in the debate, he will indeed help to be a formidable candidate who influence the quality of the candidate the G.O.P. ultimately nominates.

  1. I agree with your assessment — the stylistic contrast with Romney was striking. Johnson also touched on Rand Paul’s theme of cutting Republican sacred cows for the sake of a balanced budget.

I was disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to finish the speech. Perhaps there’s a reasonable explanation for it, but other speakers went over time without being played off the stage.
